GoDaddy.com Attacked 9/10/12

A malicious flood of network traffic has knocked Internet registrar GoDaddy’s servers offline -- taking with it the site, its email, and thousands, potentially millions of websites registered through one of the Internet’s most popular services.

a DDoS attack involves an overwhelming flood of communication that a server can't keep up with, but it can be orchestrated with as few as 50 computers.

That an Internet service which hosts more than 5 million websites wasn’t protected reveals a surprising truth: The Internet is still startlingly vulnerable to such an attack.

“Anyone can be hacked, the size of the company has no bearing on it all,” Ghosh said.

Twitter user Anonymous Own3r claimed credit for the attack, and was quick to distance himself from the hacking collective that goes by a similar name.

Fall PC Clean-Up

Fall Cleanup... for your pc. Here is an updated list of our favorite cleaning utilities/programs.

Anti-Spyware
  • We like to run several programs to help clean spyware off of your computer. Different programs find different malware. You can find these programs free at www.download.com . Currently, our favorites include:
  • SuperAntiSpyware
  • Spybot Search & Destroy
  • Malwarebytes
  • Ad-Aware
  • Separately, Spywareblaster is a good program to run in the background to help prevent spyware from entering your pc.
Registry
  • Cleaning up the registry can help reduce errors and speed up your pc.
  • Check out: Advanced SystemCare, CCleaner, Glary Utilities
Defrag Your Hard-Drive
  • You should defragment your hard-drive from time to time. You don't want your pc unnecessarily jumping around the hard-drive grabbing data. Remember to run your defrag:
  • Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragmenter
  • If you use Advanced SystemCare (above), the Defrag will be done automatically.
Anti-Virus
  • Also, make sure your anti-virus program is updated. And, run a scan if you don't have it scanning regularly.
  • We like Avast; AVG is also good.

Computer Sluggish?

Check out our blog with info on:
- Anti-spyware software
- Anti-virus software
- Registry and PC cleanup.

These software packages can help clean up your pc and help speed things up.

In addition, you should run disk deframentation from time to time (perhaps every 6 months or so). In Windows, click on Start in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > DISK DEFRAGMENTER

This will organize your hard-drive so it is more efficient.
